I had tea with the charming Ron Falloon, lost photographer of the 1960s. He trained under John French, was a contemporary of David Bailey and Terence Donovan and has had prints of the great and the good of the 1960s in a trunk under his bed for decades, now we have them exhibiting on them our oak panelled walls…

RG: Ron what a pleasure to meet you! Your photographs are an interesting insight into the 1960s; tell me about your time training with John French?

RF: It was an amazing time John brought his assistants everywhere so I was exposed to a very exciting world with him. We did the Paris collections with John twice a year and we were invited to all the best parties. I remember one day sitting in the Café Flore with John and a supremely elegant woman got out of the car with a dapper man, John turned around and said “Boys, I think its time for you to go home.” I later found out that the elegant woman and the dapper man were Marlene Dietrich and Noel Coward!

RG:What is the story behind this picture of Jean Shrimpton in the denim shirt?

RF: I shot this around 1962, before Jean was famous; I was working on a project for the Sunday Times to produce some cover ideas for a new magazine they were creating. Jean came to my studio and I wrapped her in my denim shirt.

Ron Fallon will be exhibiting his lost prints of 1960s featuring some never seen before images of Jean Shrimpton, Marianne Faithfull and many more on our fourth floor from Monday 26th July until 22nd August.
