John Lennon’s T-Shirt

Boy Howdy!New to Liberty, Lost Property t-shirts are more than a bit cool, they are faithful reproductions of vintage t-shirts as pictured on vintage rock stars. So, for example, Lost Property recreate tees such as Debbie Harry’s iconic ‘No Pictures’ top which she wore throughout Blondie’s 1978 tour, and Jeff Buckley’s legendary ‘Music is Best’ top, including the Frank Zappa quote.

The t-shirt to the left has a good story behind it: John Lennon was pictured wearing it for the first time at the infamous Record Plant studio, New York, 1971, whilst recording the album ‘Imagine’.

The ‘Boy Howdy!’ logo will resonate with some as being the mascot for notorious rock rag CREEM Magazine. Detroit based CREEM was an influential music magazine throughout the 70s and 80s, and purportedly coined the terms ‘punk rock’ and ‘heavy metal’.

Both Lennon and Yoko Ono were huge CREEM fans, often contributing letters and drawings, and Lennon wasted no time in picking up a stash of ‘Boy Howdy!’ t-shirts – which he was regularly pictured in.
