We are all very proud of our new shoe department, and on the evening of the Liberty Cardholder party we had the chance to really show it off. To celebrate this Rupert Sanderson came in and held an ‘audience with’ where he chatted about his career and his shoes, it was really interesting to put a face and a character to such a Luxury Brand.
Rupert Sanderson has not always been a shoe designer, he infact started his career in advertising before turning his interest to shoes. He went to Cordwainers College in East London learning the craft then moved to the factories of Italy working for some of the finest shoemakers, including Sergio Rossi. In 2001 he founded his self titled brand, using the traditional shoe factories of Italy to produce his stunningly crafted creations.
Sanderson’s ethos is simple, less is more. He does not overcomplicate his designs, instead works on the form of the shoe. He concentrates on perfecting the line, volume and material to flatter and lengthen the leg which makes women feel sexier. His inspiration comes from the materials themselves: from the sensual curve and silhouettes of the lasts and heels, to the quality and finish of the best leather and fabrics.
This season bright colours and sumptious snakeskin stilletoes and fabulous brothel creepers for the more outrageous puntuate the collection. This is an investment in striking style that enlivens any outfit, a pleasant contradiction to the British grey weather! We will be stocking the best of the collection in our shoes boutique on the 2nd Floor. **Did you know?** Rupert names all his shoes after types of daffodils!
